A1 Historical Turku

This sightseeing city tour has two main attractions, Turku Castle and the Aboa Vetus museum. Turku Castle has a history dating back to 1280’s and it is one of the most magnificent examples of Finland ’s national heritage. The Castle houses a permanent exhibition of the history of Turku and interesting temporary exhibits. The Aboa Vetus museum is a price winning historical museum depicting the life in Turku in the Middle Ages. Its highlight is a medieval town block right in the heart of the museum, discovered by chance during renovation work about 10 years ago.

 

A2 Art in Turku
Thursday 4th August

Join a guided tour to two interesting art museums. Wäinö Aaltonen museum has a remarkable collection of art purchased by or donated to the City of Turku since 1937. Ars Nova museum houses a large collection of modern art from Finland and abroad. The tour comprises a walking tour in the surroundings of the two museums to see also outdoor art, sculptures and other pieces of art on the streets and parks of Turku.

 

A3 Ruissalo
Monday 1st August

The beautiful island of Ruissalo is a popular recreational area. It is famous for its oak groves, verdant woods and ornate villas. The guided tour will take you on a walk on the island’s nature trails to discover the diversity of its nature. You will also visit the Botanical Gardens of the Turku University which is both a centre for scientific research and a window into plant life. Besides a modern greenhouse complex, there are the outdoor gardens with edible plants, roses, meadow flowers, rock-plants, water lilies, and exotic trees and shrubs.

 

A4 President’s Naantali
Wednesday 3 rd August

Naantali is an idyllic and charming small holiday town, characterized by ornate villas, small restaurants and cafes, music and art, and a small marina in the heart of the old town. Kultaranta, the summer residence of the President of Finland, is on the opposite side of Naantalinlahti bay. You will have a chance to visit the lovely gardens surrounding the residence, a granite castle completed in 1916. The beautifully preserved formal garden was among the first in Finland ; a woodland garden on rocky terrain is also part of the garden area.
