The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is located in Calgary’s vibrant downtown core on historic Stephen Avenue, an exciting pedestrian mall with bars, restaurants and shopping galore. The centre is directly connected to one of the Workshop hotels, the Hyatt Regency Calgary. The Delta Bow Valley hotel is a quick 10 minute walk away.

Accommodations
Support the Workshop by staying at the conference hotels! The city of Calgary will pay the rental fees associated with the convention center if we fill our hotel commitment at these two hotels. Special discounted group rates have been negotiated for IHW. Please help us to meet our goal!
Two hotels have been contracted in connection with 2012 International Herpesvirus Workshop, the Hyatt Calgary and the Delta Bow Calgary. The Hyatt Calgary is directly connected to the Calgary Telus Convention Center, the venue for the International Herpes Workshop. The Delta Bow has been chosen as the more economical option and is also in close proximity to the Convention Center.

Hotel Cancellation Policy:
IMPORTANT: Hotel cancellations must be made 72 hours prior to the scheduled arrival time, if there is not a 72 hour prior notice for cancellation, a penalty of one night room fee plus tax will apply.

Parking is available to hotel guests. The cost is $35 CAD per night for Valet Parking and $25 CAD per night for Self- Parking.

This exciting new service provides affordable, regularly scheduled on-demand transportation from 08:00 to 24:00 between the Calgary International Airport and designated pick-up points within the City of Calgary.
Airport departures are every 30 minutes at Bus Bay #8. To purchase tickets, please visit the Allied Shuttle counter on the arrivals level near Gate C between 08:00 to 24:00. Alternatively, you can reserve and buy tickets online.
Downtown pick-ups are based on a scheduled on-demand system. The shuttle will stop the Delta Bow and Hyatt Regency hotels if you make a booking in advance. Please review the schedule online. Bookings can be made either over the phone or online. It is recommended that you leave at least three hours prior to your airplane departure.
Taxis
Round the clock taxi service is available at Calgary International Airport. Taxi stands are located on the Arrivals level. Fares are based on meter rates. Under normal driving conditions, the approximate fare to Downtown Calgary is between $40 and $45. Airport taxis can accommodate four or five adult passengers. Vans are available to assist customers with excess luggage.

Car Rentals
The Rental Car Centre is located on the Departures level across the roadway from the main terminal building. It can also be accessed by the elevator lobby across the arrivals roadway. Calgary Light Rapid Transit (C-TRAIN)
The C-TRAIN (Light Rapid Transit) Platform is ideally situated adjacent to the Hyatt Regency hotel and the convention centre. One way rates are CAD $2.75 for adults. You may also purchase a book of 10 tickets for CAD $24.00, or a day pas for CAD $8.25. Downtown C-TRAIN transportation is a free fare zone. Rush hour service has a five-minute frequency and off-peak service is reduced to every 15 minutes. To view Calgary's Light Rail Transit Line and plan your trip, visit their website.
Local Information
Weather
Summer days in Calgary are normally warm with high temperatures in August averaging 17C to 23C. Evenings are cooler (7C to 10C) because of Calgary's proximity to the mountains. We recommend wearing layers to accommodate the difference in temperature from the air-conditioned workshop venue, warm days and cool evenings. In early August, days in Calgary are long, the sun rises at 6:00-6:15 am and sets around 21:00-21:30 for a total of 15 - 15.5 hours of sunlight.

Language
English is the main language in Calgary, although French is also an official language. However, many other languages from Native Americans, Europe, Asia, Africa and South America are often heard, too. Canadian English uses British English spelling, with an accent similar to the American English found in the mid-west, California or Washington State.
Visas and Documents
Visitors to Calgary and other cities in Canada require photo identification and also at least two or three types of formal ID. Passports are always required when visiting Calgary. US citizens need a passport to re-enter the US from Canada, visit http://canada.usembassy.gov/traveling_to_canada/passport-requirements.html for more information. Visa applications for travel to Calgary and throughout Canada need to be made at least one month in advance. All inquiries should be directed to Canadian Immigration Centers. Tipping
Tipping in Calgary is commonplace and many restaurants expect around 10 to 15% of the bill as a tip, although a number of restaurants automatically include service charges on the bill. Taxi drivers, barbers, hairdressers and hotel staff in Calgary also expect tipping.
Electricity
Canada operates on110 volts AC, 60 hertz electricity, the same current as the United States. Dual voltage appliances are recommended.


Time Zone
Calgary operates on Mountain Time. Mountain Standard Time (MST), during the winter. However, Mountain Daylight Time (MDT; UTC minus 6 hours), is observed during the IHW meeting time in the summer.
