Since up to the present day, six generations of the Maes family have succeeded each other. A local guide tells us, just before or just after lunch, everything about hops and malt.

Next we visit the historical center of Bruges. We start with a visit (outside) of St John’s Hospital site, one of the oldest preserved hospital buildings in Europe. We continue our guided tour and pass by at the church of Our Lady. Among all its art treasures the ‘Madonna with child’ is not to be missed since it is Michelangelo’s only sculpture north of the Alps.

We walk along the picturesque Dijver towards the Fish market and the Tanners Square. Next we visit the Burg Square with its gorgeous Gothic City Hall, the basilica of the Holy Blood and the Liberty of Bruges, (once the city’s courthouse, today the Municipal Archives), the Market Square with the imposing 83 m belfry and halles. Next we pass the city theatre, the Saaihalle (1399), Huis ter Beurze (the first stock exchange), the Toll House, etc..

On the other hand this 'chocolate' walk puts the focus on the many chocolate stores and chocolate makers which are situated in Ghent. Cost:  €60 includes VAT

Minimum:  20 participants

Includes: guide, entrance fee to Saint Bavo Cathedral & Castle of the Counts, boat transfer, lunch, 40 minute boat cruise.

Welcome by our guide(s) at ICC Citadel park. We walk towards the Bijloke site. A transfer by taxi boat brings us to the historical center of Ghent. We start with a walk towards the restaurant.

Lunch in restaurant Carlos Quinto 3 course menu, drinks not included.

Next we walk along the picturesque Graslei and Korenlei. The gables of their guild houses turn them undoubtedly into two of Ghent’s most beautiful historical streets. From one of the flanking bridges, one can see the postcard panorama of the three towers: the belfry and the steeples of the St. Nicolas church and the St Bavo’s cathedral. A stroll over the Korenmarkt , a stop at the St Nicolas church, the impressive belfry and its cloth hall (both on the World Heritage list) brings us to the cathedral. There, the famous altarpiece The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb (1432) by the van Eyck brothers, a milestone in art history, is not to be missed!

On our way to the Vrijdagsmarkt we elaborate on the city hall with its mixture of styles from flamboyant Gothic to sober Renaissance. In the middle of the Vrijdagsmarkt the statue of Jacob Van Artevelde sees to it that Ghent thrives again like it did in the 14th century when Jacob ended the English boycott on wool imports. A little further we encounter Dulle Griet (“Evil woman”), a 15th century cast iron cannon, weighing more than twelve tons. Once we have crossed the Lys we enter the inner courtyard of the House of Alijn. This former almshouse is now the Museum of Folklore. The exquisite complex is part of the Paterhol. The only neighborhood in Ghent where the original medieval street plan is still intact. Through winding alleys and cobbled streets with numerous restaurants we reach the Castle of the Counts. This imposing fortress used to be the residence of the count of Flanders. Later on it was used as a courthouse, a jail and even a textile factory. After our visit of the Castle of the Counts we return to the Korenlei passing the St-Veerle square and the Old Fish Market. Here we take a 40 minutes' boat trip on the inner canals. The program will end in the city center.

Brussels is not only the capital of Belgium, but it is also home to the three key institutions of the European Union.

Brussels has an atmosphere that international visitors find very appealing. Brussels is not only the capital of Belgium, but it is also home to the three key institutions of the European Union and to many other European organizations. Brussels has a lot to offer in terms of important historic sites and a wide array of cultural and folkloristic events. Brussels is especially known for its Art Nouveau architecture from Victor Horta and others. One of Horta’s creations, the former Waucquez warehouse, is now the location of the comic strip museum. This museum has initiated the creation of larger than life murals of comic strip characters like Tintin, Spirou, Blake and Mortimer all over town. Gastronomy, regional products like Gueuze beer, chocolate ateliers, spacious parks, a thriving fashion scene and entertainment for every taste, makes Brussels an ideal destination for tourists.

After lunch we make a guided walk through the historical centre including a visit of the  Grand'Place with its beautiful guild houses, the famous statue of Manneken Pis, the prestigious Saint Hubertus galleries, the Cathedral of the Saints Michael and Gudule, the 19th century Stock Market, the Katelijneplein/Place St Cathérine, the Mint and its theatre...

Next we organize a brief sightseeing tour of Brussels by bus covering some of the main places of interest outside the city center: the Atomium, the Royal Palace of Laken, the Japanese tower and the Chinese pavilion, the Cinquantenaire Park...
