Air Travel

The Vancouver International Airport (YVR) services nearly 50 airlines with daily flights from North America, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific. Non-stop destinations in North America include Chicago, New York, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington D.C., Calgary, Ottawa, Mexico City, and more. Non-stop international destinations include Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tapei, Tokyo, Sydney, Amsterdam, Glasgow, London, Munich, Paris, Zurich, and more.

Ground Transportation

The University of British Columbia campus is approximately 16 kilometers from the airport. There are a number of transportation options available from the Vancouver International Airport.

Taxis
Taxi stands are located on Level 2 of the Domestic and International Arrivals. The average fare to UBC from the airport is $26 CAD.

Car Rental
Car rental facilities are located just steps from the airport terminal on the ground floor of the parkade. On-site car rental companies include National, Alamo, Hertz, Dollar Thrifty, Avis, and Budget.
 
Public Transportation
The Canada Line is Vancouver's rapid transit rail connecting the airport to downtown Vancouver in under 30 minutes. This mode of transportation is recommended if you are traveling from the airport directly to downtown. Bus service to the campus from downtown is available from the Oakridge - 41st Avenue Station. Passport Requirements

All international travelers entering Canada are required to present a valid passport and valid visa (if necessary). Visit the Canada Border Services Agency website for more information and identification requirements.

 

Visa Information

It is the sole responsibility of the participant to research their visa requirements. Participants who require an entry visa must allow sufficient time for the application process. Visa applications should be submitted at least 90 days before travel.
 
Some countries will require visa applicants to provide supplementary information explaining the purpose of their travel, such as a letter of invitation. A link to generate a custom letter of invitation can be found in the registration confirmation email. IHW will not contact embassies or consulates directly on behalf of the applicant.
