PROGRAM – SATELLITE WORKSHOPS

HSV WORKSHOP
Saturday, July 7, 2007
08:00 - 12:00
The Renaissance Hotel, Salon C

Chairs: Priscilla Schaffer, Roz Sandri-Goldin, Roger Everett

The second annual HSV Satellite Workshop will take place next July 7th beginning at 8 am at the 32nd IHW in Asheville, North Carolina. The workshop will focus on the broad spectrum of HSV research topics currently covered in the general meeting. The workshop is designed to provide an opportunity for more HSV investigators to present results to their colleagues orally in an informal setting and to facilitate more in depth interactions among investigators working with HSV.

The four-hour workshop has been scheduled to avoid conflict with the VZV Satellite Workshop. If you submit an abstract to IHW 2007 that involves research on HSV and would like to participate in the HSV Satellite Workshop, please check the appropriate box on the abstract form.

After the organizers of the general meeting have made their abstract selections, they will send us the remaining HSV abstracts which we will review to organize the HSV Satellite Workshop. Indicating that your abstract would be suitable for the HSV meeting will have no effect on the process of selecting abstracts for the general meeting. We will accommodate as many speakers as possible at the HSV Workshop, and will give priority to those who will not have the opportunity to present at the main meeting. However, we will not exclude abstracts from groups that have an abstract selected for the main meeting. We plan to distribute a provisional agenda by e-mail in mid-June.

If your submitted abstract is selected for presentation at the satellite meeting, but you would prefer to present one of your other abstracts or an intriguing preliminary finding, please send us the alternative abstract immediately so that we can finalize the agenda by the end of June. We look forward to seeing you in Asheville.

BETAHERPESVIRUS WORKSHOP
Saturday, July 7, 2007
08:00 - 12:00
The
Renaissance Hotel, Windsor Ballroom

Chairs: Edward Mocarski, Laura Hertel, Tim Sparer

The Betaherpesvirus Satellite Workshop focuses on betaherpesvirus research issues and allows more personal interactions among these researchers beyond those that occur during the general meeting.

We have scheduled a four-hour meeting where researchers present their data in an oral format. At the time you submit your abstract to IHW 2007 you will have the option of indicating whether you would like your abstract to be considered for the Betaherpesvirus Satellite meeting, should it not be selected for an oral presentation at the main meeting. The Satellite meeting organizers will accommodate as many speakers as possible (approximately 20 speakers), but will schedule those who won't be able to present at the main meeting on a priority basis.

We hope to have the agenda completed and distributed by e-mail no later than mid-June. If you are selected to present your submitted abstract but have a more intriguing nascent piece of work (a hot topic or late breaker) that you would prefer to present at the satellite meeting, please be certain that you get the alternative abstract submitted to us as early as possible, preferably within a week after the tentative agenda is announced.

In addition, persons selected for an oral presentation at the satellite will need to bring their talks on a USB compatible "travel" drive in PowerPoint format. All talks will be uploaded prior to the start of the first talk at 08:00.

The organizers of this year's Betaherpesvirus Workshop meetings are:
Ed Mocarski, Emory University Vaccine Center: (404) 727-9442; mocarski@emory.edu
Laura Hertel, University of Western Ontario: (519) 661-4009; lhertel@uwo.ca

VETERINARY HERPESVIRUS WORKSHOP
Saturday, July 7, 2007
12:00 - 17:00
The
Renaissance Hotel, Swannanoa Room

Chairs: Herman Favoreel

The Veterinary Herpesvirus Workshop focuses on all aspects of veterinary herpesvirus research issues and allows personal interactions among researchers in a relaxed atmosphere.

Like last year, we again plan to have an afternoon meeting, which should allow sufficient time for researchers to present their data. At the time you submit your abstract to IHW 2007 you will have the option of indicating whether you would like your abstract to be considered for the Veterinary Herpesvirus Satellite meeting, should it not be selected for an oral presentation at the main meeting. Whether or not an abstract is also considered for a Satellite meeting will not affect its chances of being selected for the main meeting.

We hope to have the agenda complete and distributed by e-mail no later than mid-June. If, between the official submission date for the main meeting and June, you would have an intriguing nascent piece of work that you would prefer to present at the Satellite meeting, please be certain that you get the alternative abstract submitted to the email address below before June 7th.

In addition, persons that will give an oral presentation at the Satellite meeting will need to either send their PowerPoint presentation to the email address given below before June 15th or, if it is too big to send via email, bring it on a USB stick on the day of the Veterinary Herpesvirus meeting no later than 11:45.

INTERVENTIONS WORKSHOP (Vaccines/Antivirals/Clinical Management)
Saturday, July 7, 2007
13:00 - 17:00
The
Renaissance Hotel, Salon C

Chairs: David Knipe, Clyde S. Crumpacker

The Interventions Satellite Workshop will focus on Vaccines, Antiviral Drugs, and Clinical Management of Herpes Virus Infection. This forum will allow more personal interactions among researchers interested in these areas, beyond those that occur during the general meeting. This satellite will be an attractive session for those researchers interested in viral pathogenesis and methods to translate basic research into clinical applications. Abstracts on antiviral drugs, therapeutic vaccines, and preventative vaccines from company scientists are encouraged.

We will have a four-hour meeting, making it possible for more researchers to present their data. This workshop will expand the agenda of the Vaccine Satellite Workshop of the past 2 IHW meetings, which focused on vaccines.

At the time you submit your abstract to IHW 2007, you will have the option of indicating whether you would like your abstract to be considered for the Interventions Satellite meeting, should it not be selected for an oral presentation at the main meeting. The Satellite meeting organizers will accommodate as many speakers as possible, but will schedule those who won’t be able to present at the main meeting on a priority basis. We hope to have the agenda complete and distributed by e-mail no later than mid-June.

If you are selected to present your submitted abstract but have newer work (a hot topic or late breaker) that you prefer to present at the satellite meeting, please be certain that you get the alternative abstract submitted as early as possible, preferably within a week after the tentative agenda is announced. In addition, persons selected for an oral presentation at the Interventions Satellite will need to bring their PowerPoint presentations on a USB storage device or CD to the site of the meeting by 12:30 on Saturday, July 7 for uploading onto either a Mac or PC. This will allow time to organize talks in advance of presentation and to detect and correct any glitches.

The organizers for this year's Interventions Workshop are:

David Knipe: (617) 432-1934; david_knipe@hms.harvard.edu

VZV WORKSHOP
Saturday, July 7, 2007
13:00 - 17:00
The Renaissance Hotel, Windsor Ballroom

Chairs: Ann Arvin, Jeff Cohen, Scott Schmid

The VZV Satellite Workshop focuses on VZV research issues and allows more personal interactions among these researchers beyond those that occur during the general meeting.

This year we again plan to have a four hour meeting, which will make it possible for more researchers to present their data. At the time you submit your abstract to IHW 2007 you will have the option of indicating whether you would like your abstract to be considered for the VZV Satellite meeting, should it not be selected for an oral presentation at the main meeting. The Satellite meeting organizers will accommodate as many speakers as possible, but will schedule those who won't be able to present at the main meeting on a priority basis.
