Award Information

 

The International Herpesvirus Workshop (IHW) is committed to supporting trainees and early-career investigators through both merit-based and need-based award opportunities.
 

 

MERIT-BASED AWARDS

Merit-based awards are available to post-doctorates, graduate students, and trainees whose abstracts receive high scores during the review process.
 
Award Includes
  • Complimentary Workshop registration
 
Eligibility & Application
  • Applicants must be registered for IHW 2026
  • Applicants must submit an abstract
  • Award questions must be completed within the abstract submission form
  • The abstract submission and award application link will be included in your registration confirmation email
 
Notification & Refund
  • Award decisions will be communicated with abstract disposition notices on Friday, May 15, 2026
  • If selected, the registration fee will be refunded to the original credit card
  • Awards are non-transferable
 
Important Dates
  • Abstract Submission Deadline: Wednesday, April 1, 2026
  • Disposition Notices will be sent: Friday, May 15, 2026
 

 

NEED-BASED AWARDS

Need-based awards are intended to support post-doctorates, graduate students, trainees, and unfunded faculty who may not otherwise be able to attend the Workshop due to financial constraints.
 
Award Includes
  • Complimentary Workshop registration
  • Accommodation support
 
Eligibility & Policies
  • Registration is not required to apply
  • Applicants from labs funded by NIH R01 or equivalent awards may not be eligible
  • Awardees are responsible for all travel-related expenses
  • Awards are non-transferable
 
Application Requirements
  • Applicants must complete the application in one session (you cannot save and return) and provide:
  • A short statement describing the need for financial support
  • A preliminary abstract (maximum 150 words)
  • A letter of recommendation from a Supervisor or PI (encouraged, but not required)
  • If a recipient does not register or submit an abstract by Wednesday, April 1, 2026 the award will be rescinded.
 
Important Deadlines
  • Need-Based Award Application Deadline: Friday, March 13, 2026
  • Disposition Notices: March 2026
  • Abstract Submission Deadline (if awarded): Wednesday, April 1, 2026
